AL'S COMMENTS: I'd been thinking a lot about Peak Oil and Climate Change and feeling pretty somber about it. A friend suggested to channel my bummed-outness about it into a song -- Great advice! So I wrote this ode to Peak Oil... I encourage you to read up on it, make up your own mind, and do what you can to walk lightly upon the earth... Humans are the only creature on this planet that destroy more than we replenish, but we are subject to the laws of nature though we think we can cheat them with technology. No amount of technology can stop the winds of change.
Jimmy Greenspoon recorded this cool Calliope track at his place and basically emailed it to us. It's haunting and dark and works just right!

It was perfect while it lasted
We all got laid, we all got plastered
And I was such a lucky bastard
Had my fun before disaster comes
Ooooh Ooooh
CHORUS
The believer's gonna doubt
We'll learn to live without
No wishing on an oil well (no oil in a wishing well)
Will save us from that dark, dark spell
When the lights go out
And I'm weary for us all
But our house of cards will fall
The party's done, the cops were called
And now we're chained up to this ball
BRIDGE
I can't tell you not to dream
Not to hope or plot or scheme
But this kingdom you would buy
Is built upon a tragic tragic lie
