AL’S COMMENTS: I cannot for the life of me remember exactly who, or what inspired this song. But I guess I figured it was a clever idea so went forward with it.
Some tattoos are really sexy! BUT personally, I rarely like tattoos on women. They had better really mean something or be really beautiful, as otherwise it's much like taking a Sharpie pen to a fine Roman statue. That's how beautiful women are to me. With men, I'm more neutral on tattoos but I think they should really mean something because you're more or less stuck with them. Some illustrate their bodies like skateboard decks, which is not my preferred approach. OK hipsters, crucify me. Go ahead.
SONG TRIVIA: The percussive tabla sound on the bridge is me vocalizing. I also sang this song for my date, a girl named Kelly, on the TV show "Blind Date," originally airing on Thanksgiving Day 2005.

Just above your belt I saw the perfect work of art
Yin-Yang Sun and Moon, a halo full of stars
I wanted to reach out and touch it
I want to be with you so much it
Hurts sometimes
Chorus:
I wish I were the tattoo on your back
In red and green and gold and black
To be the tattoo on your back
So I looked to the Sun and Moon and wished upon some stars
I wished that I could be close to you wherever you are
All I want to do is touch you
You'll never really know how much you
Own me girl
Bridge:
Red for the blood that's beating through my battered heart
Black for the death I hope will never do us part
Gold for the treasure that see inside your eyes
A little dash of green to show my slightly jealous mind
If I were to tell you that I wish I were your ink
Would take it as a compliment, what would you think?
If only you would try to let me in
I promise I would never leave your skin
Chorus
