AL’S COMMENTS: If you haven't guessed by now, I really like women. I am blessed and honored to have known and loved many. But every once in a while, there's a special one that I wish I could have forever... and usually, someone else already has them forever!
This was written for the second Wordplay Songwriter Showcase, the theme of which was "Body Parts." I wanted to really do a lot with body parts as well as pull a fast one on the listener. The song ended up coming out quite a bit more heartfelt than I had intended. Perhaps it's because I was able to integrate a few ideas that had long been bobbing around in my head... one of which was the notion of a man's hungry eyes pointing toward a hungry soul... you know what they say about the eyes being a window to the soul... So ladies, next time you grow uncomfortable with the hungry eyes of that man who has you feel uneasy, just know that there's a pained, hungry soul underneath. No, I'm not saying you should open up to him... But just be aware...

Many are the breasts and thighs
Have danced before my eyes
Many are the waists and tastes
Have left me mesmerized
Many are the times
My hands caressed a spine
And many are the memories
Of naked legs on mine
But there's one part of you
I'm longing to see bare
CHORUS:
Your left-hand ring finger
Is where I'll ever stare
My hungry eyes will linger
On your left-hand ring finger
Your left-hand ring finger
Now if I met you years ago
Girl, I would not waste one day
To wrap you in that wedding band
And carry you away
'Cause many are the times
Girl, I've looked into your eyes
Just wondering if you're happy now
Or if you've compromised
I'm crying out to God
With a very selfish prayer...
Your left-hand ring finger
Is where I'll ever stare
My hungry eyes will linger
On your left-hand ring finger
Your left-hand ring finger Your left-hand ring finger
